I would dare say that everyone in my generation were brought up in a way whereby birthdays are to be celebrated.
It is amusing to observe that no kids ask about the significance of birthdays when their parents hold a party for them.
Only when I turned 18 this year, I could truly appreciate 'birthdays'. Don't get me wrong, its not that I've got trashy celebrations for the past 17 years,
I didn't. laughs.
But this is the only year when I pondered and asked: 'Why?'
I guess the fundamental reason to why birthdays are celebrated revolves around the word, 'Value'.
Just as how our parents are valued, we've got Fathers' and Mothers' Days.
Just as how the workforce is valued, we've got Labour Day.
Just as how customs and traditional practices are valued, we've got all the public holidays which students love.
Just as how You Are Valued, a day on the calendar is dedicated just for you. I presume this isn't exactly a
deep thing and to this small pool of audience I've got, you guys might have realised and understood the significance of birthdays way before I did. Laughs.
But I firmly believe that your birth date makes the most appropriate day for some personal reflection.
Celebrate the successes, forsake the blunders, embrace changes.
Age;
To me,
age is merely a superficial numerical measure.
It disregards your mental maturity, life experiences and capacity.
To judge one base on age is simply a lack of foresight i think.
But we can't deny the fact that age do establishes a direct relationship with your life experiences. And hence age is a matter to consider in the working world.
Children, youths, adults, the aged and you, should not be living in the facade of this lifestyle governed by age.
Don't limit or underestimate yourself, just because you're 14, 20, or even 36 years old.
Fun fact: There's this 8 year old kid who passed the Cambridge O-level Pure Chemistry examination and is schooling in Singapore Polytechnic now.
I took that Chemistry paper when i was 16. He's 8 years ahead of me (and in fact everyone in the singapore's education system).
He did not limit his choices and ability just because of his age.
So, neither should you. I've been showering 'Thank you's to a lot of people lately. And here's one more to those who had celebrated my birthday, sent me the texts, and the gifts too!
Thank you, for I know that I am valued by you.
Oh goodness.

Lord of empty space
You breathe and then create
Before the earth was made
You are
The King of every age
Outside of time and space
The heavens speak Your name
You are
You are
Lord of brilliant light
You separate the night
And everything inside
You are
The One who calms the seas
And every part of me
With just a word You speak
You are
You are.
I give You all of me for all You are
Here I am
Take me apart
Take me apart
I give You all of me for all You are
Here I am
Take me apart
Take me apart
Angels bowing down
Beneath the rushing sound
A voice that thunders out
You are
The one who holds the stars
And the beating of my heart
Exalted above all
You are
You are
All I am I want to lay down at Your feet
All I am I want to lay down at Your feet
All I am I want to lay down at Your feet
